We switched on. You too – Magyar Telekom increases its 5G outdoor population coverage to 60%
Budapest, May 24, 2023 10:00
Magyar Telekom increases its population outdoor 5G coverage to 60% by this summer as part of its mobile network modernization program. From 1 June 2023, the company's 5G service will be available in Budapest, the county capitals, several rural towns, and villages, and around Lake Balaton, Lake Velencei, and Lake Tisza. Between 1 June and 31 August, Telekom will automatically make 5G available to all its customers with a 5G-enabled device and mobile internet service.
Magyar
Telekom has continued its multi-year network modernization program this year,
aiming to upgrade, maintain and improve service quality and increase capacity
in line with the continuous growth in voice and data traffic demand from
customers.
As part of the overall program, the modernization of
mobile base stations covers not only active and passive radio equipment but
also the infrastructure needed to accomodate and to operate them. The
replacement of this equipment with modern devices alone will create additional
capacity, resulting in technological advantages that can be leveraged by modern
equipment, more reliable service, and lower energy consumption.
In doing so, Telekom is creating technological
capabilities that provide the opportunity for immediate or future service
expansion at these stations and nationwide. The flexibility of a more modern
network will underpin the ability to respond more quickly to customer needs in
a more customized way. Under the program, the company upgraded nearly 30% of
its mobile stations in 2022, bringing the total number of modernized stations
to 60%. The towers upgraded last year were selected based on customer demand
and from among base stations serving the busiest areas. A significant number of
the modernized stations have also undergone capacity upgrades. Telekom provides
5G networks at 700 MHz, 2100 MHz and 3600 MHz, with the current development
typically switching on 5G at 700 MHz.Telekom's
aim is to continue to meet the growing data needs of its customers at the
highest standard, and as part of this, it has further increased its 5G population
coverage in 2023 to make the latest generation of mobile technology available
to more customers. From 1 June 2023, the company's 5G network will be available
in Budapest, the county capitals, several rural towns, and villages, and around
Lake Balaton, Lake Velencei, and Lake Tisza.
"This year, we will continue to pursue the strategy we have embarked on in recent years, and our goal remains to connect everyone to the world of opportunities with our high-quality network and devices. Last year we switched off our 3G network, we are working non-stop to improve the capacity and coverage of our 4G network to improve our customer experience in terms of voice-, and data traffic, and we are also continuously improving our 5G network, tripling our 5G outdoor population coverage compared to 2022." summarized Lubor Zatko, Magyar Telekom's Chief Technology and IT Officer.
Between June 1 and August 31, Telekom shall make 5G automatically available to all its customers free of charge, which they can use with a 5G-capable device and mobile internet service. Details of the campaign can be found at www.telekom.hu/5G. All of this is part of a set of solutions, the collection of goodies, which includes innovations, discounts, and surprises that make everyday life easier. More details: www.telekom.hu/ahogyakarod.
"Our goal is to make the achievements of digitalization, the most modern technologies and developments as widely available as possible, in order to be part of solving everyday problems, so that, with our help, everyone can move forward digitally in their own lives. That is why we are constantly developing our 5G network and services, which transforms and advances many aspects of modern life. We want to make this experience available to as many of our customers as possible, this is why we introduced the extremely affordable 5G-capable T Phone and T Phone Pro devices last fall, and this is why we will make the 5G network available throughout the summer.” added Zoltán Pereszlényi, Magyar Telekom's Chief Commercial Officer.
As 5G access expands, so does the demand for fast and secure private mobile network access in the corporate environment. Magyar Telekom offers its customers a Campus Network private (non-public) mobile network as a commercial service, which provides both fast and flexible network connectivity, while at the same time being separated from the public network. This helps avoid commercial and residential activities interfering with each other's smooth operation.
"Magyar Telekom's 5G network and the digital services built on it will create more opportunities than ever for companies to use them to further increase their competitiveness. We are proud that our Campus Network solution has already made its debut on a wider scale among others in the summer of 2022, when Festipay terminals at the Sziget, Strand festivals and EFOTT used a dedicated network." highlighted Gábor Gonda, Magyar Telekom’s Chief Commercial Officer Enterprise.
To use the 5G network, in addition to the 5G coverage, a suitable tariff plan (only mobile internet service is required for the campaign between 1 June and 31 August this summer), a 5G-enabled device and at least a 4G-capable physical SIM or eSIM are required, which can be found on the company's website: 5G network - Magyar Telekom Group
