Browse green to fight against climate change with carbon neutral Telekom
Budapest, January 10, 2019 11:00
Magyar Telekom Group closed its fourth carbon neutral year in 2018 in a row. Besides its own operation the company also neutralized the customer side carbon emission of residential and enterprise Magenta 1 services thereby involving more than 150 000 customers into climate protection activities. With the implementation of the ExtraNet Green 1 GB data extension service from January this year more customers may actively take part in the protection of the environment.
With the launch of the ExtraNet Green 1 GB data extension service in 2019 Magyar Telekom takes the next step to involve its customers into climate protection efforts, in line with its Sustainability Strategy. As the new member of the ExtraNet family the Green 1 GB data extension service is available from this January whereby it is guaranteed that Magyar Telekom generates the same amount of energy with its own solar panel system that is required for the forwarding of consumed data.
In 2018 the company installed a solar panel system on its training center in Budapest and launched the community solar panel project among its employees. In 2019 Magyar Telekom connects its customers into the program and with the installation of a further solar panel system in Szeged increases the amount of green energy produced by the company.
Customers who choose the ExtraNet 1 GB data extension service may continuously monitor the production of their supported solar panel system and with making this choice they encourage the installation of further solar panels as Magyar Telekom plans to install further solar panel plants from the relevant income.
In line with Magyar Telekom’s sustainability strategy the company has been voluntarily striving to reduce its energy consumption and carbon dioxide emission for years. In 2015, among the first Hungarian and international big enterprises, the group became carbon neutral and in 2018, first in Hungary, Telekom committed to a long-term emission reduction objective in line with the Science Based Target initiative.
