Budapest, December 4, 2018 16:30
Based on the resolution of the National Media and Infocommunications, the frequency usage rights of Magyar Telekom in the 2100 MHz frequency otherwise expiring on December 27, 2019 have been prolonged until June 27, 2027.
This right was acquired by T-Mobile Hungary – legal predecessor of Magyar Telekom – in 2004 on the tender of the National Infocommunications Authority. Prolongation of the license by seven and a half year was made possible by the invitation to tender issued in 2004. Magyar Telekom wants to use this extension opportunity in order to continue to provide to its customer high level 3G service in the forthcoming years, which is possible in the 2100 MHz frequency band. Although the developments of the company focus on the superfast mobile internet access, it is nonetheless important to Telekom to provide good and reliable services also to customers, who are not yet using 4G compatible devices. In addition, the extension creates the opportunity for the emergence of state-of-the-art, future-proof mobile technologies also in this frequency band. It is important to Magyar Telekom to contribute to the success of individuals and communities, as well as the competitiveness of the country by providing modern network infrastructure of outstanding quality.
For the three duplex 5 MHz frequency blocks Magyar Telekom is required to pay a price of HUF 11 billion, due in the first quarter of 2019. The one-time fee of the frequency band prolongation, as well as the present value of the future annual band fees of HUF 4.2 billion will be capitalized in the fourth quarter of 2018.
