Telekom has made accessible its mobile Internet service 1 with a nominal download speed of up to 300 Mbit/sec in 8 county seats in East Hungary and in 5 more cities. By this the number of our base stations built on 4G+ (LTE-Advanced) technology, i.e. on the fastest mobile Internet technology available in Hungary, has increased to 100. The following cities are affected by these development: Békéscsaba, Debrecen, Eger, Kecskemét, Miskolc, Salgótarján, Szeged, Szolnok, továbbá Baja, Cegléd, Gödöllő, Gyöngyös and Karcag. According to the plans, by the end of the year Telekom will have switched on 4G+ technology in several hundred new base stations.
In areas covered by LTE-Advanced technology customers may even experience double speed compared to the existing service by using qualifying equipment and tariff plans. 2 Even when performing activities with higher data needs, such as uploading or downloading video contents, using music downloading services or applications, customers may obtain higher speeds and better user experiences even during peak times or in mass events, for example, in stadiums and festivals.
From the assortment of Telekom, over twenty types of smart handsets (appliances marked as ’category 6’), enable access to the advantages offered by LTE-Advanced technology for persons living in the areas affected by the development, using the Next M and Next XL smartphone and the Net&Roll M and Net&Roll L mobile Internet tariff plans of the operator and the Gold Partner Card versions of these. Today practically all smartphones and smart devices offered by Telekom are enabled to get connected to the 4G network.
In December 2015 Nyíregyháza became the first city in Hungary, as the first venue in the Digital Hungary programme, where mobile Internet service with a theoretical download speed of up to 300 Mbit/sec 1 became available on the network of Telekom. The outdoor coverage of the 4G network of Telekom now stands at 97.5 per cent. The number of customers using this service has grown dynamically, at present there are already 1.1 million customers all over the country who enjoy the benefits provided by the 4G technology.
1) Reaching the theoretical maximum speed depends on the availability of a properly enabled appliance supporting the given technology and on whether the network supports that speed in the given spot, furthermore, on radio and traffic circumstances.
2) The following is needed for using LTE-A-based data
service:
- An LTE-A enabled appliance supporting the bands used by Telekom,
- An LTE-A enabled monthly or periodical tariff plan,
- LTE-A network coverage.
