Magyar Telekom launches Internet traffic exchange center
Budapest, December 18, 2014 11:30
Magyar Telekom has established an Internet traffic exchange center called MT-IX and is launching its new wholesale service designed to manage domestic Internet traffic exchange. Telekom grants access to the new center to all Internet service providers under favourable conditions through which they can optimize the exchange of domestic Internet traffic.
Magyar Telekom’s new Internet traffic exchange center Telekom Internet Exchange (MT-IX) is designed to provide a more favourable alternative for Hungary’s Internet service provider market in terms of both service and tariffs. With the introduction of Telekom’s own innovative service, developed in Hungary, a new option becomes available in Hungary’s Internet traffic exchange which can intensify the infrastructure based market competition.
Walter Goldenits, Magyar Telekom’s Chief Technology and IT Officer said: „Magyar Telekom’s primary goal is to enhance the increase of Internet traffic with an excellent quality and efficient solution. In order to achieve this Telekom offers its new MT-IX service under highly favourable terms, guaranteed quality parameters and extended availability which enables our partners to improve their operating efficiency. The access to the country’s largest Internet customer base at Magyar Telekom is a further attractive opportunity.”
In line with its business strategy Telekom enters a further new market with this new service. Efficient operation through MT-IX may favourably affect the reduction of public peering costs and, as a result, those of providing Internet services for both Telekom and its partners. By joining MT-IX Internet service providers may reduce even by half the costs of domestic public peering, which would contribute to increasing market demand, Internet traffic and penetration in Hungary.
The key goal of the MT-IX infrastructure is to provide IP traffic exchange in a reliable quality based on advanced technology for every partner connected to it. The solution offers the simple exchange of domestic fixed line and mobile Internet traffic as well as international Internet access. With the new service Telekom intends to satisfy the demand of Internet hosting and content service providers conducting significant traffic.
Telekom is committed to the increasingly broader expansion of Internet access and usage in Hungary. To the benefit of customers and the country we support the expansion of broadband coverage and Internet penetration with our innovative, competitively priced and quality services as well as continuous network development. Through this we also enhance the goals of the Partnership Cooperation Agreement for Digital Hungary, especially the promotion of digital literacy, digital equal opportunities and the use of advanced online services.
