Question marks related to children suffering in cancerous diseases after hospitalisation – the Donation line supports social re-integration
Budapest, September 4, 2013 11:00
In September and October 2013 callers of the hello holnap! Donation line of Telekom support children and young people suffering from cancerous diseases in their social re-integration.
Each year on average about forty new children and young age patients are admitted to the Oncohaematology Department of the Paediatric Clinic in the city of Pécs to cure them from their cancerous diseases. The life of little patients and of their families changes during the long lasting treatment – occasionally taking years – new priorities bring about different lifestyles, due to the close links established with the hospital all other social relations are marginalised. In hospitals an „army” of helpers take care of the patients and families, however after the hospital treatment this support practically is ended, but the life of these families will never be the same again: problems of different nature may arise, ranging from family break-up to unemployment... – and all these questions require individual treatment. The Híd (Bridge) Information and Consulting Office was established for this purpose, offering a complex support scheme to those in crisis. Experts of the office – psychologist, mentoring teacher, and physic-therapist – assist the social re-integration of children and families mainly living in the villages and small cities of the region.
