The majority of internet users in Hungary already purchased some products or services through the net. In addition, online shoppers are also satisfied, 76 percent state that they have good experiences concerning web stores – as revealed by the most recent, representative research carried out by Magyar Telekom among internet users.
Telekom carried out a representative survey among
internet users aged 14-69. The research revealed that 62% of Hungarian internet
users bought some products or services last year.
Visitors of web stores
represent a population with above average higher education background, above
average financial resources and majority of them are dwellers of the capital
city. The research also revealed that holders of smartphones are represented
higher among online shoppers, than users of traditional phones (74% vs. 54%).
Those having already purchased online fundamentally have good experiences
concerning online shopping: all in all 76 percent claim to have positive
experiences. Online shopping from abroad is less significant: only every fifth
online shopper made orders in foreign countries.
Last year online shoppers mainly purchased CDs, DVDs, garments, toys and sports articles.
Smartphone holder online shoppers are more likely to buy garments, technical
appliances and mobile telephones (plus accessories) than holders of traditional
phones. The most popular services bought online include financial services and
different tickets. Smartphone holders are more likely to buy services related
to their mobile phones online. Paying utility fees online is also gaining
ground though, Telekom’s research revealed that 34% of Hungarian internet users
paid for public utility services online.
In case of online
shopping, payment made upon delivery in cash is the most popular mode of all. About
half of online shoppers pay using online bank transfer or postal cheque at
least occasionally. The least frequented payment method is using online internet
card.
