Four years, 40 million MobileParking transactions – with SMS, calls and applications

Since the launch of Ad-hoc mobile parking, in 34 cities all around the country, more than 40 million parking tickets were purchased with mobile phones – announced EME Zrt, Magyar Telekom, Telenor Hungary and Vodafone Hungary. In addition to public areas, ever more cordoned areas and parking facilities join the system, including the protected area of the Buda Castle or three underground parking facilities of Debrecen city.

Beside SMS and calls, the service is used by an increasing number of subscribers with smartphone applications, making MobileParking even more simple. As one of the advantages, beside providing the zone number, our parking position can also be identified using GPS coordinates of our phone.

Telekom and Vodafone offer their own Android and iOS applications for their customers, under the names of MobileShopping or MobileParking, while the proprietary, award winning application of EME Zrt (Parking & e-sticker) serves the customers of Telenor and Vodafone, as well as Telekom subscribers for mobile services. At the Mobile Shopping Application Awards 2013 competition announced by MasterCard the application came in second among Hungarian nominees. So far tens of thousands downloaded the applications which by now are used nationwide.

Advantages of MobileParking

The popularity of MobileParking is contributed to simple and comfortable administration, as well as to continuous service upgrade. Using MobileParking one can initiate parking in a cashless way, saving time – and the parking fee (as well as the transaction or communication fee) can be paid (in the way chosen by the subscriber) either from the customer’s credit balance held at the operator, or from an charged EME balance or may even be directly debited to a bank account. Motorists choosing MobileParking – thanks to the minute based system – can rest assured that they in fact only pay for the time they spent parking.

Motorists paying parking fees included in their mobile phone bill are required no registration, to start parking they only have to send their license plate number in SMS to the number displayed on the parking ticket vending machine (06-20-30-70/810 and the four digit zone code), while it can be terminated any time just as simply, by sending the word STOP to the same number. Assuming that the customer knows in advance how long he wants to park at the given place, the required duration in minutes can also be sent by SMS – obviously taken into account the maximum parking time permitted in the given zone. In all cases a confirmation SMS signals the start of parking. Upon each transaction a transaction fee of HUF 75, plus the fee two SMS – according to the tariff package of the customer – is charged to the subscriber.

Customers having preliminarily registered with EME Zrt. can start parking easiest with a phone call. The required phone number (06-80-98 and the four digit zone code) is displayed on the parking ticket vending machine, in yellow field. To terminate parking, one simply needs to call the same number again.
