5th Sustainability Day organised by Magyar Telekom
Budapest, September 19, 2012 10:00
Magyar Telekom organises the Sustainability Day for the fifth time on September 29, 2012. The festival-conference event will feature professional discussions primarily targeting young people, but there will also be exhibitions, award ceremonies and afterparty in the evening. The full day event will be hosted by Millenaris Theatrum.
The objective of Sustainability Day 5 (SD5) is to concentrate on solutions, opportunities and activities serving sustainable development. This year’s slogan in Hungarian) „Mentés másként” (Save As) refers to the computers’ saving function, as well as (to the different methods of saving the planet. Also to the organisers’ aspiration of trying to continuously involve visitors by keeping them active all through the day, also outside the programmes: encouraging them to ask questions, form opinions and play along. The exhibition is also an important element of the event, where one can also visualise and experience the concepts presented at the conference. One can not only talk about issues raised but specifically do something for them also in Hungary.
SD5 will be started by the opening presentation of etiologist Vilmos Csányi at 11 a.m. setting the tone, followed by award ceremonies. Awards will be handed over already for the second time to the winners of hello holnap! (hello tomorrow!) competition announced for the press, as well as the photo competition Jöv ő-Kép (Vision). Professional discussions focusing on the three pillars of sustainability (society, environment, economy) will follow at 1 p.m. Issues raised will include why we Hungarians lag behind the West in the fields of active citizenship and expressing opinions, why this works better in Western countries. Other themes include the importance of green areas, and how urbanised areas could be put to better use. Questions will also be addressed, like why Szolnok is the most livable Hungarian city, or what the situation is with renewable energy in Hungary, what is in the focus of green capital investment projects or to what extent attention is paid to green considerations during festivals. Organisers try to make the theory of the hardly tangible sustainability concept more tangible during the workshop conversations and exhibitions: one can test driving electronic cars, there will be "fair trade coffee and tea", bio-syrups, cups made of recycled materials, decomposing, and flats illuminated by natural sunshine, as well as everyday items made of bicycle parts.
Forums attendees will include: László Molnár - general manager of GKI, Sándor Kerekes - director of the Budapest Corvinus University and the Environmental Science Institute, Róbert Pataki - chief strategy and business development officer of Magyar Telekom, Gábor Takács J. - managing director of the Hungarian Wind Energy Industry Association, Sándor Fülöp - the deputy of the recently resigned basic rights commissioner responsible for future generations and György Simó - managing partner of Day One Capital. Further to the experts, representatives of the Sustainability Media Club will also play active roles in each discussion . Section meetings will feature slammers Színész Bob , I ndiana and Újonc, improvising relevant to the themes.
As a novel feature of SD5this year, an extra section will be held in the „ Greening Festivals” theme, with the participation of Norbert Löbenwein –main organiser of VOLT Festival and Balaton Sound, Gerg ő Kirchknopf – singer of Ocho Macho, Tamás Sziromi-Nagy – president of the Green Belt Association, Endre Korentsy – customer relations director of event organising agency HD Group, Kiss Norbert Ádám (RTL Klub) and slammers Hugee&Zeek. Péter Novák will act again as the facilitator of this year’s event.
The Afterparty (which can be attended free by visitors registering by 7 p.m.) starting at 9 p.m. will be the closing event of the day. Traditionally, the SD5 Competition awards are handed over at this event, followed by Bankrupt, PASO Traditional Ska and Ocho Macho on the stage.
