State-of-the-art technology in the Swimming European Championship

Magyar Telekom will apply its state-of-the-art IT and telecommunications services - including its fourth generation mobile Internet technology (4G/LTE) and optical network - in the European swimming championship held in Debrecen.
The technical experts of Telekom covered the distance of 10 km between the Sports Swimming Pool of Debrecen, the venue of the competition, and the optical backbone using glass fibre cables capable of transmitting at 10 Gigabit, additionally, a data transmission system using microwave was also provisioned, thus the secure operation of the IT background of the competition is guaranteed. Owing to the work of these experts, journalists working for radios and televisions stations or news agencies, and together with them, every attendant representative of sports media have a choice of several options, including leased lines, WLAN connection, ISDN service and four different kinds of Wi-Fi networks, these options enable them to communicate at maximum speed and transmit their written and illustrated reports to various parts of the world.
Thanks to Telekom, 210 end points have been installed in the sports swimming pool: including 100 ISDN and analogue telephone end points, 30 TV sets, 27 Wi-Fi service points, 12 Internet connection points ensuring high data transmission speed at the transmission truck and 4 connection points at the large screens showing the event. One of the displays is located several kilometres away from the venue of the competition, in the university quarters. Naturally, Telekom also caters for the athletes, coaches and journalists: a closed circuit TV network was installed for them; the screens will show the competition in HD quality, in addition, local information of the contest will also be displayed here, for example, the list of athletes in the various events, in normal resolution. As an additional spectacle, the large screens installed in the swimming pool will display the images of the TV transmission through the image signal service of Telekom. One of the interesting things about the event is that Telekom set up a mobile base station near the sporting facility for the provision of mobile data and voice traffic. The appliance supporting the provision of 3G and LTE traffic within the competition building was delivered to the premises by a truck of 7.5 tons. Another interesting point is that, as a result of several weeks of work, Telekom provisioned a total of 5700 m of UTP network cabling, and also arranged for the availability of 1160 m of optical cables in time.
