Christopher Mattheisen elected President of the Joint Venture Association

Christopher Mattheisen, Magyar Telekom’s Chairman and CEO, has been elected President of the Joint Venture Association (JVA) for three years at the the federation’s general meeting held yesterday.
Christopher Mattheisen said in connection with his election: „It is not only an honor to act as President of an organization having represented interests for 26 years already, but it is at the same time an enormous responsibility in a period when both Europe and Hungary face major economic challenges. I believe the Joint Venture Association will be able to effectively support with its proposals and recommendations Hungary’s economic policy in this challenging task.” Speaking about current issues of the industry on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on May 17, the new President of JVA emphasized that he was confident that all players of the telecommunication industry, acting as a major employer and investor and a key driver of Hungary’s economy, may expect that a sustainable solution enhancing the country’s competitiveness will emerge regarding the telecommunication act.
The foremost objective of the Joint Venture Association since its formation in 1986 has been to represent, protect and exert by all legal means the specific interests of partly or wholly foreign-owned companies registered in Hungary. The JVA currently counts some 300 registered members, and the number of their affiliations is about 1500 companies. JVA members include companies from all sectors of the economy: industry, commerce and services of all sorts. The member companies employ about 110,000 people. The breakdown of foreign investors of these companies reflects the country of origin of FDI in Hungary: leading the group of proprietors from altogether 33 countries are German, Austrian and USA investors.
