Donation Line in May and June—for the Recovery of Children Suffering from Cancer
Budapest, May 10, 2012 15:00
Those calling hello holnap! donation line 1788 or sending text messages to it will support the objectives of the National Federation of Children Suffering from Cancer and Leukaemia. Having successfully operated the donation line for the tenth year now, Magyar Telekom considers it important to support the development of Hungary’s health care and the improvement of its services.
Close to 5000 children suffer from cancer in Hungary, which means they have to undergo long hospitalization, painful treatments and the healing process often lasts for years. Fighting this illness is a challenging task and the recovery of body and soul requires the help of professionals. But the disease can be cured if it is recognised in time and treated properly. Great attention should therefore be paid to ensuring that as many people as possible are informed about who to approach with the symptoms and what possibilities there exist to recover.
The National Federation for Children Suffering from Cancer and Leukaemia was established in 2005 to coordinate the foundations supporting hospitals involved in the paediatric oncology network as well as the organisations operating in the non-governmental sphere, in a combined effort to help combat cancer in children. The federation believes that by harmonising the requirements of sick children and their relatives with the best practices of the medical profession, by providing new instruments and improving the quality of health services and rehabilitation it can contribute to the effective treatment of cancer and to successful recovery.
With the help of donations received through the donation line the organisation intends to support the development of the onco-haematological centres operating in Hungary. They plan to purchase new medical instruments for the centres, as there is an enormous need for compact, light and portable pumps for administering medicine, ports that protect the integrity of the children’s vascular system and facilitate easy and painless blood sampling and administration of medicine, as well as for mattresses that help to prevent bed sores and are designed to alleviate the discomfort of having to spend a long time in bed. The organisation hopes that thanks to the donations it will be able to significantly reduce the ordeals of lengthy treatments and thus contribute to making medical care safer and of a higher quality. The hello holnap! Donation Line also known from the slogan “1788 – the human number” can be accessed from both the fixed and the mobile networks. Both calls and the text messages cost HUF 100, which is tax-free (with the exception of calls initiated with Domino top-up cards). The fee for calls received in May and June 2012 will be donated in full to the National Federation of Children Suffering from Cancer and Leukaemia, which will use this amount to improve the level of medical treatment through the purchase of new instruments, promoting the healing of an increasing number of seriously ill children.
