300,000 interactive TV subscribers at Magyar Telekom
Budapest, December 11, 2012 09:00
After dynamic growth, the number of subscribers to T-Home’s Interactive TV service is now over 300,000.
The number of subscribers to T-Home’s Interactive TV service passed the 300,000 mark by early December and the number of interactive functions available has also increased.
“Early this year we stated that 2012 would be the year of interactive television in Hungary. As we have greeted our three hundred thousandth subscriber I can only confirm this statement. One of our surveys this year reveals that every third TV viewer expects to consume content consciously and selectively. Telekom’s innovation will continue to focus on being able to deploy technology in the service of customer experience,” said Christopher Mattheisen, Magyar Telekom’s Chairman-CEO.
As the result of the developments carried out by Telekom an increasing number of applications that have already become popular on IPTV are now available through the interactive SAT TV service as well, among them the Horoszkóp (Horoscope), the Szerencsejáték (Lottery) and the Árfolyamok (Exchange Rates) applications. An additional innovation is that IPTV can now be controlled by an application downloadable to a smart phone. With the help of the new application available already for devices with iOS and Android operation systems, the telephone can easily be converted into a touch-screen T-Home IPTV remote control.
The Videotéka now registers 100,000 lending a month. In line with customer demands, the latest movies are available at the Videotéka almost at the same time the DVD is released, or immediately after. Exclusive content (studio concerts of X-Factor singers before broadcast, an Australian crime series titled Miss Fisher, unavailable anywhere else), films of independent distributors or films free of charge (3D broadcasts of the National Geographic Channel and other 3D films) enrich the offer.
As market leader service provider, Magyar Telekom strives to provide even better services for its customers, and, in this spirit, it is constantly expanding its integrated service offer. Thanks to the recently announced developments facilitating transferability among screens, movies can be enjoyed not only on TV, but also on the notebook, tablet and smart phone with the Moziaréna service. As Christmas approaches, the mood for shopping is increasingly buoyant, and, according to Telekom’s experience one third of TV sets find their owner in this season and last Christmas film lending also grew by almost two and a half times.
The IPTV service that is radically changing traditional television viewing was launched for the first time in Hungary in 2006 by the innovation-leading T-Home (more precisely its predecessor brand, T-Online Hungary), and for some time it was the only brand that offered commercial IPTV service. Likewise, in December 2011 T-Home became the first in Hungary to launch a satellite TV service enhanced with new interactive services, called the Interactive Sat TV, which – as a special hybrid technology solution – provides interactive contents on the satellite TV via an internet connection.
