Meeting of Inspiring Cultures and Green Technologies at TEDx in Budapest
Budapest, September 27, 2011 09:30
A historian, a ballet dancer, a writer, an innovator, and intellectuals from all walks of science inspired the audience at the TEDx Danubia conference in Budapest. The programme of this special event was enriched by an unusual interactive dialogue this year: renowned experts discussed the Green IT philosophy under the supervision of Magyar Telekom.
The green aspect of the video conference, possibilities to reduce the costs of
small enterprises, eco-buildings inspired by the model of vegetable functioning
and others - these were the topics touched upon by the speakers of the TEDx
Danubia conference in the Urania Film Theatre on September 23rd. The central
idea of the event entitled the "Dialogue of Cultures" was a real, live
connection between cultures, and a change in paradigm.
At the conference
organised by Telekom as the main sponsor, the presentations of the 25 Hungarian
and foreign guests revolved around 4 major topics: "Past-Present-Future",
"Nature-Man-Technology", "Reason-Faith-Emotion" and "A Serious Game". The
presenters represented the broadest range of science: a historian, a ballet
dancer, a writer, a perfume critic, an economic lawyer and a business innovator
inspired the audience with their ideas.
In the experimenting and open
spirit of TED, even a workshop was scheduled on the agenda of the conference:
Magyar Telekom organised an interactive discussion in the Green IT topic. Those
interested in this topic were helped by experts to find out what to understand
exactly by the notion of Green IT: a green, environmentally conscious attitude
and system which is based on economical info-communicational solutions and
technologies.
András Simonyi, Hungary's former Ambassador to the US put the
emphasis on the sustainable participation of large companies, while Ernő Duda, a
research fellow emphasized the broad applicability of renewable energy sources.
The Head of Telekom's IT Partner Department joined the discussion through a so
called "Videogate" conference. Zoltán Csáki-Barcza called attention to the green
solutions of everyday office technology: the reduction of the number of tools in
itself facilitates a more economical operation, and at the same time businesses
- also including small businesses with just a couple of dozens of employees -
may rent guaranteed "green", modern telecommunication and information technology
solutions from their service providers for just tens of thousands of
forints.
The participants used specific international and domestic case
studies to discuss how a business focusing on the Green IT philosophy can reduce
its power consumption, fuel utilisation or harmful emissions.
You could
also hear about the green technologies mentioned at the workshop in the
presentations that were delivered later at the conference: Zsolt Vaszary talked
about "Webcam laboratory" development, which is a new interactive dimension of
scientific education, and Gábor Birkás, architect brought examples for the
pioneering solutions of eco-houses. The extracts of the presentations and the
most important information of the Green IT workshop can be openly accessed on
the website of TEDx after the conference.
TED, which started as an
exclusive and special conference in California 25 years ago has become a
globally renowned notion. The purpose of TED is to collect interesting and
inspiring thinkers and creators from all walks of life throughout the whole
world in a way which is cross-border in all aspects.
