Budapest, May 19, 2011 11:00

On May 21 Magyar Telekom also joins the national waste collecting campaign announced by the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice and the Ministry of Rural Development titled "CollectIt! Volunteer for a Clean Hungary!" Volunteers of the leading info communication provider of the country are going to clean the shores and, from canoes, the water of Tisza River at Ároktő situated in the Mezőcsát small area, in the framework of the Jövő/Menő program.

The "CollectIt" campaign launched at the initiative of the government in the framework of -2011"The European Year of Volunteering" intends to turn into Hungary's largest volunteer movement the organisers of which wish to draw attention to the social value of volunteer activities as well as the fact that taking sufficient care and cooperating we can promote the protection of our environment.

As a number of other companies and organisations, Magyar Telekom has also joined the waste collecting campaign on May 21 and has announced among the employees of Hungary's leading info communication provider as well as those interested from the outside, a volunteer waste collecting date to take place at Ároktő in the Mezőcsát small region. Telekom's strategic NGO partner, the Szívlapát Foundation and its Jövő/Menő program will provide the framework for the whole-day event in which volunteers will clean the shores of Tisza River, as well as the water from maritime canoes, the latter of which will be supported by the tengerikajak.hu team. The collected waste will subsequently be selected then recycled.

Sustainable development and related activities, the inclusion of people enjoy the support of Magyar Telekom and play a key role among its long-term strategic targets; it is specifically for this reason that the company has launched its initiative called "hello tomorrow!"

Telekom has been organising volunteer events in the Mezőcsát small region for a year now, in the framework of the Jövő/Menő program. The purpose of the Jövő/Menő program is to demonstrate the ways of the implementation of sustainable development through the life of the Mezőcsát small area with around 15 thousand inhabitants, through their inclusion and organising a series of community programs and events. In January 2011 the Jövő/Menő program launched by Magyar Telekom jointly with its civil strategic partner was granted the Award for Excellence in Workplace Volunteer Programs. Due to similar activities like the "CollectIt" campaign in Europe several tens of tonnes of waste have been collected turning the environment nicer and liveable.
