Pocket the city! PocketGuide iPhone and Android applications for T-Mobile customers
Budapest, April 28, 2011
T-Mobile customers can soon test the popular PocketGuide telephone application at favorable prices. Using this application one can explore larger cities in Hungary and Europe as if there was a personal guide in the telephone. Experiences recorded during the guided tour can be shared with friends by the application, compiling a film-like summary.
T-Mobile customers using iPhone or Android smartphones will not need to purchase a guidebook for their vacations planned for the summer, nor do they have to spend on personal tour guides. All they need to do is download the PocketGuide T-Mobile Edition application and select the European large city or region, more specifically the tourist route meeting their requirements in terms of length and thematic. A urban packet generally includes 10 tour routes and information about 500 attractions. Based on GPS position the application identifies the location of the user, offers verbal and visual information about the attractions. Walking between two attractions the tourist can enjoy interesting stories about the city. One wishing an unstructured walk can also choose the Roaming mode and PocketGuide shows the nearby attractions as well as service outlets: restaurants, cafes and other points of interest. All it takes is to download the application at home or in the hotel and there will be no need for Internet connection during the city tour, as most information are stored in the telephone memory (thematic tours, attractions, points of interest, programs).
PocketGuide offers outstanding community features: in addition to enabling users to generate profiles with Facebook Connect, the application automatically compiles a video travel log using photos and videos, notes and the Google Earth 3D model recorded with GPS taken by the phone, which users can immediately share with their Facebook friends or the whole PocketGuide community. Using the Live Feed feature they can get an insight into what is happening in the relevant city and what their friends did earlier at the given location. They can also share with their friends the assessment on restaurants and cafes that they liked.
T-Mobile customers using iPhone or Android phones get a 10 euro credit upon downloading the application, of which they can purchase a complete city guide or two tours. Once the initial credit is exploited, additional content is available for payment. One city tour costs 4.99 euro while one city tour costs 9.99 euro – a yearly subscription (including the top 5 tours of each city) costs 19.99 euro.
The PocketGuide T-Mobile Edition application will be available for download on iPhones from the iTunes App Store and for Android smartphones from the developer’s own online store in May. The application will be available to T-Mobile customers free of charge – except for the data traffic generated during downloading and using the application.
The proposition was developed through the cooperation of GPS City Guide Ltd. and T-Mobile.
Downloading and using the application requires using a tariff package enabling data traffic or Wi-Fi connection. Using the application (except for maps or content earlier stored) generates data traffic, that is billed according to the terms of the subscriber’s tariff package and the effective tariff table of T-Mobile.
Further details and conditions will be published on the T-Mobile website in May.
