Budapest, May 6, 2010 15:00

Magyar Telekom was placed first this year as well in the CSR survey released today by Braun & Partners Network, that ranks 25 Hungarian enterprises with the highest revenue on the basis of their corporate social responsibility performance. At the same time, among the 100 largest companies of the Central and East European region Magyar Telekom came out second.

Magyar Telekom scored a performance of 88%, which is a significant improvement relative to that of the previous year (79%). With this performance the company has once again come out first among the 25 largest Hungarian firms surveyed. As for the regional list ranking the 100 largest companies Magyar Telekom-tightly following the Austrian energy company OMV (90%)-has but slightly scored less and come out second, having thus outperformed leading companies like MOL, OTP, Telekom Austria, PKN Orlen or E.ON Hungary.

Magyar Telekom's Chairman & CEO Christopher Mattheisen said, evaluating the success: "It gives us particular pride that we managed to retain our leading position in Hungary and that we belong to the best at the international level in corporate social responsibility. The success we have achieved is a proof of the excellent results we scored last year in various areas of sustainability: environment-saving info-communication technologies, equal opportunities at the workplace, transparency and cooperating with non-governmental organisations, responsible corporate governance and relations with our stakeholders. All this is being achieved in harmony with our business goals, in keeping with our sustainability strategy. Being the country's leading info-communication carrier we pay special attention to providing updated information about our results to our customers, employees and stakeholders through the three screens accompanying our life: TV, Internet and mobile phones."

Braun & Partners Network analysed, using information available on the companies- home page, 25 companies with the highest revenue of each of the four countries in the Central and East European region (Hungary, Austria, Poland and Romania) using the CSR 24/7 research methodology to evaluate CSR activities. The survey demonstrates the extent to and expediency with which large companies of the region render available information concerning their socially responsible operation.

Comparing the performance of the companies of the surveyed countries, Hungarian firms continue to be in the forefront in communicating their responsible operations. An indication of their leading position is that half of the top 10 places in the Top 100 list of the region have been taken by Hungarian companies.

Magyar Telekom and its subsidiary companies have been focusing since the 1990s on the management of social and environmental issues. Magyar Telekom has had a sustainability strategy since 2005. It annually issues a sustainability report, which is certified by an independent rater in compliance with the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The company has been the first and only in Hungary having issued a report with A+ rating according to third generation GRI guidelines.

The recognition and strengthening of sustainability and the triple connectedness of environment-society-economy constitute a long-term strategic principle. Keeping this in mind it endeavours to incorporate the sustainability-related approach in the processes at every level of corporate governance. This way, for example, the company's management is regularly informed on task performance and the results achieved.

CSR 24/7 is a rating product developed by Braun & Partners to assess the CSR performance of companies based on information accessible to all stakeholders. Rating methodology is based on Accountability standards, GRI indicators, and triple bottom line principles and good practices. The methodology examines 7 domains: transparency; corporate governance; stakeholder relations; environmental responsibility; economic responsibility; society; human resources. The index resulting from the survey has 24 scores at the maximum, and this is from where the name of the survey originates. For further information see Internet page www.csr24-7.com.
