From July 1 automatic roaming data limit for T-Mobile subscribers in EU countries
Budapest, March 31, 2010
From July 1 in most European countries a data limit will protect T-Mobile subscribers travelling abroad against potentially higher invoiced amounts, resulting from mobile Internet usage outside Hungary. The new service named EU GRPS is already available; however between April 1 and July 1 T-Mobile will automatically activate it for all customers, except if they instruct the operator otherwise. Essentially, the EU GPRS limit reaching data traffic costing about HUF 17,000 in the EU countries, as well as in Norway, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland only allows further Internet traffic, if the subscriber de-activates the limit.
Due to the favourable domestic mobile Internet fees the number of customers subscribing for mobile Internet increases rapidly and the volume of transmitted data also show dynamic growth. The number of mobile Internet subscribers is close to 960 thousand in Hungary, and almost half of them use the Internet service of T-Mobile. Beside the rapid growth of mobile Internet use in Hungary, using the same service in Hungary is limited by the currently high roaming fees. T-Mobile therefore agrees with the objective of decreasing the fees of Internet usage abroad, making the mobile Internet service more affordable and widespread also abroad. The retail prices of T-Mobile are also the lowest in Hungary and through its favourable fees the operator offers the possibility of data traffic, also when roaming abroad.
As long as the international wholesale roaming fees are not decreased, in line with the EU regulations, as of March 1, 2010 T-Mobile introduced the EU GPRS limit service, enabling subscribers to control their data traffic in the EU countries, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland easier. Upon activating the EU GPRS limit service, a roaming traffic limit of 28 MB – currently costing about HUF 17,000 – will be set in the EU, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, and reaching this limit data transmission will automatically be terminated. Further data traffic will only be possible upon the specific request of the customer, by cancelling the roaming limit service. In addition, subscribers will receive a notification SMS upon reaching 80 and 100% of the limit. As another favourable option, using the so-called USSD codes the customer can also check his actual data traffic balance.
The EU GPRS limit service is available to both postpaid and Domino pre-paid customers, using any public apn (Internet, wap, wnw, static) data transmission channel. In order to meet the EU requirements, between April 1 and July 1, 2010 T-Mobile activates the EU GPRS Limit service for all customers automatically, except those who instruct the operator otherwise. T-Mobile invites all its subscribers to request information before their travel to the above countries, if the EU GPRS limit service is activated for their subscription. Detailed information about the service is available on the T-Mobile website, at www.t-mobile.hu
