Budapest, June 24, 2010 16:00

The audience of the charity concert, organized with Magyar Telekom's support, filled the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall at the Palace of Arts on the evening of June 22. As many as 1100 people turned out for the large-scale "Hungarian Fantasy", a gala evening of Concerto Budapest and the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the total net revenue of which the organizers donate to flood victims with the help of the Hungarian Red Cross.

Appearing in the gala evening supported by Magyar Telekom were Concerto Budapest and the Hungarian National Philharmonic as well as the Muzsikás Ensemble and the Hungarian Pipers along with renowned musicians like Zoltán Kocsis, Jenő Jandó, Tünde Szalóki, Bernadett Wiedemann, András Molnár, Péter Kálmán, Mária Petrás, Kálmán Balogh and András Berecz. The highly successful concert featured, among others, Liszt's Hungarian Fantasy, Bartók's Romanian Folk Dances, Kodály's Háry János suite, Weiner's Divertimento and Beethoven's 9th Symphony.

The high profile program was at the same time an expression of thanks to the audience who supported the initiative through booking tickets for the evening. The amount thus raised will go to those in need through the Hungarian Red Cross.

Christopher Mattheisen, Chairman-CEO of Magyar Telekom highlighted in his welcome address at the charity gala concert: "Magyar Telekom as a responsible company has been trying to help flood victims with all possible means and, as a responsible employer, it ensured for all its employees the possibility to do something personally. Thus the package we have compiled contains, in addition to the amounts and assets we have already donated, the total income of the charity concert and the donations collected through the flood help-line 1749 to help flood victims, as many of them will have to rebuild their life from scratch. We do hope they will be able to do so with our help."

András Keller, music director of Concerto Budapest said: "We are very happy the charity concert has turned out such a hit and that we have been able to raise all this amount of money for those in need. And special thanks to the musicians who offered that they would come and play for the good cause and to the audience as well who contributed the price of their ticket to the success of this evening and that we can all help in this way. The main aim was to make flood-victims feel they are not alone and our thoughts are with them."

In the past weeks Magyar Telekom launched several initiatives to support defence against flood and the work of rescue. Offer brands of the leading telecommunications carriers, T-Mobile and T-Home, in collaboration with partner carriers launched on May 19 a flood helpline number 1749 through which nearly 143 million HUF has been raised.

On June 8 Magyar Telekom announced that it would provide a support of 60 million HUF towards flood rescue activities as well as 200 handsets with T-Mobile Domino cards for use by the inhabitants and rescue teams in the settlements hit most badly by the flood. The handsets were also delivered to those in need by the Hungarian Red Cross.

The company started to collect donations among its employees as well. Magyar Telekom adds double the amount to those offered by employees, in which way so far 350 thousand HUF has been delivered to the people in need through the Hungarian Red Cross.
