Charity concert for flood victims supported by Magyar Telekom

Budapest, June 14, 2010 13:30

A charity concert titled "Hungarian Fantasy" will be held with Magyar Telekom's support in the Palace of Arts on June 22. The program of the concert is being organized by the Concerto Budapest orchestra and the most outstanding Hungarian musicians will take part in it. The total income of the large-scale cultural event will go to flood victims with the assistance of the Hungarian Red Cross.

Appearing in the Hungarian Fantasy charity concert organized jointly by Magyar Telekom and Concerto Budapest on June 22 will be, beside András Keller and Concerto Budapest, renowned artists and ensembles including Zoltán Kocsis and the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Jenő Jandó, Kálmán Balogh, the Muzsikás ensemble and Mária Petrás.

The performing artists, Magyar Telekom and Concerto Budapest will offer the total net income of the charity concert, which will be remitted to the Hungarian Red Cross, towards the help of flood victims.

Christopher Mattheisen, Chairman-CEO of Magyar Telekom said about the charity concert: "Magyar Telekom was the first to hasten to help victims of the floods in Hungary, when - jointly with other telecommunication carriers - it initiated a flood helpline. W enhanced our efforts as the catastrophic situation worsened and the number of those in need of help increased, so that we could do even more to mitigate damages and to express our solidarity in a tangible manner. We set up a comprehensive support package consisting of several measures, an important element of which is the support of the charity concert. The donations offered will be forwarded to those in need of it in the shortest possible time with the help of our partners."

András Keller, chief director of Concerto Budapest explained: "When we saw the grave situation emerging in Hungary and the number of people forced to leave their home due to the flood we decided that we would help in our own way. We joined forces with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and several excellent artists to establish a joint ground for donations. We are confident that the charity concert will attract a great number of visitors who can help others through purchasing tickets and spend a pleasant evening at the same time."

The program of the concert features, among others, Hungarian Fantasy by Liszt, Romanian Folk Dances by Bartók, the Háry János suite by Kodály and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.

Detailed information about the charity concert and the tickets is available at the box offices and Internet sites of Concerto Budapest and the Palace of Arts.

Magyar Telekom has launched several initiatives in the recent weeks to support protection from the flood and the work of restoration. Offer brands of the leading telecommunication operator, T-Mobile and T-Home, joined forces on May 19 with two other mobile carriers and launched a flood helpline number 1749. The amount collected from donations will be forwarded to those in need of it with the help of the Red Cross.

Magyar Telekom announced on June 8 that it provides a support of HUF 60 million to help flood related efforts, along with 200 handsets with T-Mobile Domino cards for those who live in areas afflicted most by the flood and for the inhabitants who take part in rescue works. The handsets will also be forwarded to those in need by the Hungarian Red Cross.

Magyar Telekom started to collect donations among its employees as well. The company will add double the amount to that collected by the employees and forward it gradually to those in need through charity organisations.
