Despite the importance of travel insurance, merely one third of Hungarians travelling abroad sign such a policy before travelling abroad. The reason is not only the intention to save money: Many do not even think about it before leaving the country, while others may find it difficult to make the time available necessary to arrange it. With the new service of UNION Insurance Company and T-Mobile a travel insurance covering all countries may be purchased more simply than ever, at a favourable price, even in SMS from abroad, within two hours from crossing the borders of Hungary.

The option of purchasing travel insurance in SMS is available to T-Mobile subscribers; the purchase action requires nothing else but a mobile phone. Insurance can be purchased both before the trip and while leaving the country. In either case the subscriber can initiate the purchase by sending an SMS to number +36-30/8100-888.

Two insurance packages are available within the service. The fee of the individual version is HUF 490 per day, while the version covering 2 parents and children below the age of 16 – with no limitation on their number – costs HUF 1,190 daily. Available at a favourable price, the insurance scheme offers coverage, as value limits are high. The individual version offers coverage for illness or accident up to HUF 20 million, and HUF 3 million in case of becoming handicapped. The policy also covers extreme cases, including skiing, snowboarding, hobby level rafting and diving. Easy administration includes full coverage for all countries, no extra fees are charged for trips outside Europe.

In case of the individual package the customer only needs to provide 4 pieces of data in SMS: name, year of birth, starting and ending date of the trip (in month/day format). In case of the family version the year of birth of the family members also need to be provided. After the customer approves the confirmation SMS, the operator forwards the insurance policy number and the emergency telephone number. This text message needs to be stored in the telephone until the trip ends. Postpaid customers can pay the fee calculated based on the trip duration - provided by the customer in SMS – in their monthly bill, while in case of Domino and Mix prepaid subscribers the amount is deducted immediately from their universal credit balance.

Good news for subscribers of other operators: if there is at least one T-Mobile subscriber in the company, he can purchase individual travel insurance for other persons as well, travelling at the same time and to the same destination.
