T-Mobile bicycle events for sustainable development

Budapest, October 19, 2009

In the past 6 years more than 150 thousand active participants and hundreds of thousands of spectators voted for environmental protection and healthy lifestyle at bicycle events supported by T-Mobile. This year the gratis bike repair service was added to the list of popular and regularly organised events. As the leading info-communication operator of Hungary, the Magyar Telekom Group is committed towards sustainable development and the cause of environmental protection. Within the framework of its sponsorship activities, the company pays special attention to sustainability aspects when establishing its offer brands – including T-Mobile – and the product assortment, by launching numerous awareness raising programmes.

Besides supporting top level sports, T-Mobile has been promoting the cycling mass sports events in Hungary since 2004. The series of cycling events sponsored by the leading mobile operator started with the Citadella Cycling Competition, followed by the T-Mobile Mountain Bike Top Marathon series – enjoying more and more popularity each year – and numerous other events organised in the countryside. The itinerary of Top Marathon crosses mountainous areas of Northern Hungary, including Bük and Mátra, the Visegrádi and Pilis mountains, but other regions of Hungary are also included. Successful cycling days were organised in Budapest, Dunaújváros, Tihany, Balatonfüred and Szekszárd. These sports events attracted more than 150 thousand participants and hundreds of thousands of “green minded” visitors in the past six years.

Beside tours organised for cyclists, T-Mobile offers numerous programmes, raising awareness to changes inherent in environmental pollution and climatic change, as well as to the importance of preserving natural resources and our living environment. In the highly popular Bike School children visiting the event can learn about advantages of the healthy lifestyle, and the rules of safe transportation, in a fun and playful environment. So far ten thousand kindergarten and school age children took part in the education campaign, which was launched last year.

This year the mobile operator came up with a novelty. The T-Mobile Bike Repair Service – offering expert assistance to carry out minor repairs in a few minutes - was successfully debuted in Szekszárd, followed by events organised in Budapest several times, at different locations.
