Magyar Telekom takes part in Health Bridge Partner Chain
Budapest, October 2, 2009 13:00
This year Magyar Telekom, as an employer that feels responsibility for the health of its employees, will join again the 'Health Bridge - Cooperation for Health and Against Breast Cancer', an initiative based on the idea that breast cancer can be avoided with screening in time. In the framework of the Health Bridge Partner Chain, Magyar Telekom will provide free breast cancer screening for a hundred employees. In the evening of October 4 the employees of the company, with Chief Human Resources Officer Éva Somorjai will take part in the awareness-raising walk across Chain Bridge which will bear the motto: 'Together against breast cancer'.
In Magyar Telekom's employer thinking, health protection has occupied a primary role for more than ten years. As a key achievement in this field we provide an complex health screening opportunity annually for our employees, attended last year by more than 4,000 Telekom employees. The Health Bridge initiative will be a good opportunity for Magyar Telekom to make its employees aware that breast cancer can be avoided if they lead a healthy life and go for regular screening tests.
"Knowing that breast cancer if detected in an early stage, can be cured in 90% of cases, we provide free breast cancer screening
to a hundred employees. To demonstrate my personal commitment to this cause, I will attend the walk across Chain Bridge in
the evening of October 4 in the company of my family and our employees", said Chief Human Resources Officer Éva Somorjai.
She added:
"I'm deeply convinced that a lovable and livable workplace that we intend to establish is also a health-friendly workplace.
And this is a goal well worth of investing into. Magyar Telekom employees can buy sport activities, sports gear and outfits
as well as recreation packages with the health fund contribution provided as a non-wage benefit exceeding the national average.
We operate sports clubs and workout facilities are available in more and more office buildings. Answering the requests of
employees, we have built or expanded bicycle storage facilities on company premises. We also provide professional health care
for every employee. We provide for protection of our non-smoking employees and make available in the company medical surgeries
CDs to help give up smoking."
The company's efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle and increase the satisfaction of its employees have been honored with several awards. For our professional efforts of more than 10 years we won the Family Friendly Employer 2008 award and we ranked third among some 100 companies in the Heart Friendly Employer competition.
