Magyar Telekom's Chairman & CEO Christopher Mattheisen said, evaluating the international success: "It gives us particular pride that we finished first not only in domestic but also in international competition. I believe that we owe this magnificent result to the committed work done by the employee staff of our company in order to make our environment and society more livable and healthier. We have achieved outstanding results in the fields of promoting environmentally friendly infocommunications technologies, creating equal opportunities in the places of work, ensuring transparency, cooperating with the non-governmental organizations, responsible corporate governance and managing relations with our stakeholders. We are making these efforts in line with our business goals and with our sustainability and corporate citizenship strategy. As a real three-screen infocommunications company we pay special attention to giving our customers, employees and stakeholders updated and professionally sound information about our achievements on life's three key screens - TVs, mobile phones and computers."

Since as early as the 1990s Magyar Telekom and its subsidiaries have been addressing social and environmental problems as their key focus. As first among the Hungarian companies, Magyar Telekom dedicated a special organization unit already in 1996 to CSR activities, and right from the start has discussed these activities regularly in its annual reports. The company has been coordinating its environmental activities since 2002, and has had a sustainability strategy in place since 2005. We publish annual sustainability reports which are certified by an independent certification agency according to the principles of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). Our company was the first in Hungary to publish a GRI third generation report which earned A+ rating.

The recognition of the priorities of sustainability and the environment-society-economy relationship, and strengthening them with positive activities, are a long-term strategy focus for Magyar Telekom. In line with this, it is making every effort to integrate the corporate social responsibility approach in the corporate governance processes at every level. The Corporate Sustainability Department is responsible for the implementation and coordination of the sustainability strategy, and the Brand Management and Corporate Social Responsibility Department of the Group Communications Directorate for the CSR activities of Magyar Telekom. There is also a Group Sustainability Coordination Council in place, which has the mission of strengthening the sustainability approach. The Management Committee, the senior executive body of the Magyar Telekom Group, receives regular reports about the implementation of the sustainability and corporate social responsibility strategy targets.
