Budapest, February 25, 2009 18:00

Magyar Telekom has won the Family-Friendly Workplace Award. The company received this recognition in the large enterprise category of the competition invited by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor. Magyar Telekom, as an employer committed to the principles of sustainability, supports the need to create balance between family and workplace, to ensure diversity at the workplace and equal opportunities.

Magyar Telekom's Chief Human Resources Officer Éva Somorjai emphasized in connection with the recognition: "Giving the Family-Friendly Workplace Award to Magyar Telekom rewarded the achievements of our professional work performed over many years to create balance between family and the workplace and offer equal opportunities. Such milestones in our work are: Social Charter, Diversity Policy, Plan for Equal Opportunities that we were the first in the business sphere to approve last year in conjunction with the employee representation organizations. Our HR strategy is driven by the defined goal to ensure satisfaction of our employees, to make Telekom a place that not only ensures good working conditions but also enables achievement of good performance. My guiding principle is to ensure a lovable and livable workplace that is attractive on the labor market."

In its competition entry Magyar Telekom presented in detail and confirmed with numerous examples that it is a responsible family-friendly employer for whom it is important to create, operate and continuously develop a social-welfare benefits system, in addition to creating safe working conditions. According to the definition given in the invitation to competition, family-friendly workplace means that the employer promotes harmonization of work and private life, coordination of family and private life needs with workplace requirements. When the entries were evaluated the premises of the competing enterprises, including Magyar Telekom, were visited.

Magyar Telekom's family-friendly efforts also bring business benefits since satisfied employees perform their job with greater motivation and higher commitment. The atypical forms of employment used to create a balance between family and the workplace - such as part-time work, flexitime and partial teleworking applied by Magyar Telekom - motivate people to deliver outstanding performance through harmonization with the employees' varying working style and living circumstances.

Creation of balance between family and the workplace is supported by the child raising program that help employees with small children return to work and the family aid program that gives support to registration of Telekom employees' children in day nursery and day care center and for summer vacation. Magyar Telekom's employees can enjoy the most attractive and widest scope of fringe benefits system in Hungary. Telekom families can among others go on vacation to the company's holiday centers, apply for school start support, participate in the company's Family Day and Telekom Olympics programs. Employees can ask for advice, even anonymously, for handling private life or workplace problems in the Abigél employee consulting program and at the series of presentations "Family and Workplace".
