Recognition for Magyar Telekom's sustainability performance

Budapest, February 20, 2009 16:00

Magyar Telekom has received another recognition for its sustainability performance. It is the only company from Hungary and from Central Europe, included and rated in the 2009 Sustainability Yearbook released by the Zurich-based SAM (Sustainable Asset Management), the professional auditor of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

It is an achievement in itself that the company was invited by Dow Jones into this circle, since only the 2,500 largest companies of the world can be included. Out of the 2,500 companies assessed in terms of sustainability only the best performing 15% in the 57 sectors assessed are included in the Yearbook.

Naturally out of the first three categories, gold means the highest performance that was awarded to 81 companies. The silver award that Magyar Telekom received means the second category where 58 companies were included, while bronze was the third category with 74 companies.

Magyar Telekom was also rated in the second category (silver) in the fixed telecommunications sector, along with a total of 56 companies. The silver category included also France Telecom, Korea Telecom and Telecom Italia. Four telecommunications giants were classified in the gold category: BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica (Spain) and Telust (Canada).

The companies were assessed along economic, environmental and social dimensions on the basis of various sector-specific criteria, such as brand management, customer relations management, service development, climate strategy, environmental policy, operational eco-efficiency and elimination of the digital divide.
