The best Egálnet homepages announced
Budapest, December 7, 2009 16:15
The winners of the homepage contest held in the framework of Magyar Telekom's Egálnet Program were announced this afternoon at the award ceremony. The best homepages in eleven categories received valuable prizes, and special awards were given to the homepages with the highest number of visitors and the most votes.
The best homepages in the different categories were selected on the basis of their content and design. A total of twenty prizes were presented in eleven categories. The jury that evaluated the homepages included, among others, Origo's Editor in Chief Balázs Weyer and the Head of Magyar Telekom's Sustainability Department Katalin Szomolányi. The competition was open to homepages established by November 20.
At the awards ceremony, Magyar Telekom's Chief Human Resources Officer Éva Somorjai emphasized that "Magyar Telekom considers all aspects of sustainability, including equal opportunities as being of utmost importance, and as a responsible company, we do so not only in the context of our own employees, but also for all strata of society. For years now we have handled the elimination of the digital divide, including the Egálnet initiative, as a significant effort."
It was in November 2006 that Magyar Telekom launched the Internet for Equal Opportunities - Egálnet community site, as part of its Digital Bridge Program. The purpose of Egálnet is to promote the networking of organizations supporting the disadvantaged, and to help the efficient operation of the organizations by making use of the means offered by the Internet. In the framework of this service, Magyar Telekom offers disadvantaged communities or organizations supporting them the opportunity to establish and run their websites free of charge. However, organizations that already have homepages can also become part of the Egálnet community site.
At the awards ceremony held at Magyar Telekom's headquarters building, the winners presented their homepages and explained how the homepage has supported their work, and also exchanged their experience.
Chief Human Resources Officer, Éva Somorjai and the well-known performer, Péter Novák handed over prizes to the following winners of the different categories:
- Small settlement category: Association for Developing Kalaznó and Association for Somogycsicsó-Somogy
