Budapest, October 10, 2008 12:00
In Hungary Magyar Telekom has become the first to obtain the highest A+ rating for its sustainability report that means full compliance with international reporting guidelines. Additionally the report won second place at the “Green Frog” award for the best report producers in the region.
Magyar Telekom’s sustainability report has become the first in Hungary
to obtain the highest (A+) rating that means full compliance with the
third generation guidelines of Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI G3).
The highest level compliance with international guidelines ensures that
the company’s activities are most transparent and comparable to each
other. As a result of transparency the company can become a recognized
and accepted member of the community where it is operating. This year
again the company’s sustainability report was audited by the non-profit
organization KÖVET (Association for Environmentally Aware Management).
Additionally
the report won second place at the Central European Companies’
Environmental Report Award. The recognition known as “Green Frog” award
is given to Central European companies that produce the best
environmental or sustainability report in the given year. The award was
established by Deloitte in 2001.
Magyar Telekom issues an
annual sustainability report to present its environmental, social and
economic initiatives and results. The report issued this year proves
successful completion of the 2005-2008 sustainability strategy: the
major goal of the strategy, to ensure that Magyar Telekom achieves a
leading sustainability position in Central Europe, has been achieved.
The report consists of three parts in line with the major directions of
the strategy. The first part addresses how sustainability is present in
the company’s operating processes. The second part presents the efforts
being taken by Magyar Telekom to reduce negative environmental and
social impacts generated through its operations. The third part focuses
on use of sustainability benefits to be found in infocommunication
products and services.
It is a growing demand of the company’s
stakeholders (customers, employees, shareholders, vendors,
non-governmental organizations, government, universities, etc.) to
present a report on sustainability performance since they want to know
how operations of the company affect them and how it contributes to
sustainable development. Magyar Telekom invites stakeholders to send
their opinions and expectations to
fenntarthatosag@telekom.hu
so that the company can learn them and thereby become an even more accepted and useful member of the society.
The 2007 report is available also in English on Magyar Telekom’s sustainability website:
