Fault repair in Magyar Telekom’s fixed network completed
Budapest, September 10, 2008 15:16
Magyar Telekom’s technicians completed fault repair this morning, earlier than planned, in the fixed network damaged through cable stealing in Budapest 19th district. All fixed line telecommunications services are seamlessly functioning again.
Magyar Telekom’s technicians were continuously working with high labor
expenditure to eliminate the service outage that resulted in subscriber
lines in Kispest from the crime committed on September 5. After
restoration of service to key institutional and corporate customers,
residential subscriber lines were continuously restored at a high pace,
so about two thirds of them were operational again within 3 days. From
this morning customers can again access our fixed telecommunications
services on the last damaged lines, too.
The amount of damage
suffered by Magyar Telekom is still being estimated. According to
preliminary estimates, the damage caused plus the costs of restoration
and lost traffic can exceed HUF 50 million.
In the interest of
the prevention of similar damages, often repeatedly committed at the
same site, Magyar Telekom continues to have security measures in place.
However, mass stealing of cables causes damage to all
telecommunications and other network operators and in the current
regulatory environment we have to reckon with repeated crimes.
Therefore we actively support initiatives of authorities, local
governments and companies aiming at prevention of cable stealing and
establishing a more transparent regulation of non-ferrous metal trade.
As
we have earlier communicated, Magyar Telekom, in accordance with its
applicable General Contract Conditions, credits the proportional share
of monthly fee to the customers’ next monthly bill for the period of
service outage.
