Mr. Elek Straub's high-ranking German state award

On the occasion of the Budapest visit of Mr. Johannes Rau president of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Elek Straub chairman-CEO of Matáv was awarded the 1st Class Cross of Distinction of the Order of the Federal Republic of Germany for his efforts in the area of the development of German-Hungarian relations.
Mr. Elek Straub and the company he manages have received a number of
professional and social awards in the past years. In 1999 Mr. Elek
Straub was awarded the Hungarian prize of Manager of the Year, and in
2000 the international prize of CEO of the Year. On May 15, 2003 Mr.
Elek Straub was elected Chairman of the German-Hungarian Chamber of
Industry and Commerce for two years.
The Financial Times Global Telecommunications Award, and the KHVM
(Ministry of Transportation, Communications and Water Management)
Innovation Award were outstanding successes for the company. In 1998
Matáv was elected the Corporate Donor of the Year. Central European,
the journal of the British financial publishing group Euromoney awarded
the title of the Central European Corporate of the Decade to Matáv.
According to the rating of BÉT (the Budapest Stock Exchange) Matáv was
the Best Stock Market Issuer in 1997, 1998, 1999. In 2002 the company
was awarded the US Innovation Award.
