As of November 3, 2002, national area codes will be modified in the Greek wired telephone network. The new area codes can be dialed by inserting a digit 2 before the old code. (E.g. current number in Athens: +30 10 3612345, new number: +30 210 3612345)

Area code changes will come into force at once without any transitional period in which both number options would be valid.
