1 million HUF MATÁV donation
Budapest, June 7, 2002
On June 4, 2002 RTL Klub’s Fókusz program carried an interview with Barbara Gyura who, after having lost her child to leukemia at the age of two, started the “Apple of My Eye – Foundation for Sick Children”. The foundation has set the aim of supporting permanently bedridden children and the institutions that look after them. At present, it is raising funds to buy a 7-million-forint ambulance to transport sick children, which they want to donate to the Pécs ambulance station. On June 5, 2002 Matáv decided to contribute 1 million HUF to the purchase of the ambulance.
There are long-standing traditions in Western Europe and the United States for large companies to play a responsible social role and Matáv has set the objective of establishing this tradition here, too. Its donation activities have already extended to numerous health and social organizations in need of assistance. The company concentrates its donations on seven key areas (treatment of cardio-vascular diseases, health promotion programs, the treatment of communication disorders, the support of the sport activities of handicapped people, promotion of the cultural initiatives of disadvantaged settlements, treatment of the health and social problems of children, and the support of telephone helplines), donating increasing sums from year to year for these purposes. In 2002, the company is providing over 75 million HUF worth of charitable support.
