Flood helpline has collected over HUF 10 million
Budapest, August 30, 2002
The customers of five Hungarian telecommunications service providers, Matáv, Pannon GSM, Vivendi, Vodafone and Westel, can donate HUF 100 for the victims of the recent floods with each telephone call.
The 1749 flood helpline has collected over HUF 10 million in donations since the
service was opened a week ago and it is expected that in the remaining life of
this initiative till September 22, additional tens of thousands of people will
opt for this simple form of donation.
The number of calls received so far on
the flood helpline shows that people understand the importance of acting in
unity - just as they did at the time of the flood defense - and are eager to
help ease the damage caused by the Danube flood.
The sums donated by the
customers of Matáv, Pannon GSM, Vivendi, Vodafone and Westel will be used to
help the people most in need of assistance, so the five service providers will
ask the Hungarian Red Cross to distribute the money.
