One Million Forints for cancer treatment
Budapest, October 11, 2001
Today, Dr. Emil Farkas, assistant professor and president of the Tumor Surgery Foundation, received a donation of HUF 1 000 000 from Gyula Szabó, head of Matáv's Corporate Contributions Sponsorship Department. The Foundation will use the money to purchase medical equipment for the treatment of tumor patients.
The
sponsorship and donations activities of large corporations have long
traditions in Western Europe and the United States, and Matáv has set
the goal of introducing this tradition here, too. Numerous health
institutions and social organizations have already been the target of
its donations and sponsorship activities. The company concentrates on
seven key areas (treatment of cardiac and vascular diseases, health
promotion programs, treatment of communication problems, sport
activities of handicapped people, cultural initiatives of disadvantaged
localities, dealing with the health and social problems of children,
support of telephone helpline services), donating larger amounts each
year (this year these charitable donations amounted to over HUF 50
million).
Gyula Szabó, head of Matáv's Corporate Contributions Sponsorship
Department, today presented the HUF 1 000 000 check to assistant
professor Dr. Emil Farkas, president of the Tumor Surgery Foundation,
in the National Oncology Institute.
