According to Matáv the customers are the greatest losers
Budapest, June 16, 1999
Yesterday, Parliament passed the amendment of the Telecommunications Act and thereby considerably narrowed the cable TV market opportunities of concessionary telecommunications companies. In Matáv's opinion, this amendment excluded from the cable TV market precisely the only company that would have had the chance to create a real competitive environment.
In the opinion of MATÁV, the new regulation will cause the greatest
loss for customers because considerable investments and developments
planned by MATÁV will not be implemented and thus consumers will be
deprived of high quality, up-to-date services. Those who assume that
the amendment will result in falling prices in the cable television
market are mistaken.
In the following days, MATÁV will assess what it can do in the new situation within the frames of legal provisions.
