Gigantic contemporary light art installation in Roosevelt Square
Budapest, December 18, 2007
This year, Magyar Telekom’s Christmas light painting exhibition will be held in front of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Roosevelt Square from December 20, 2007 to January 1, 2008. The installation can be seen between 4 p.m. and midnight each day. In addition to the extraordinary world of visual images, visitors can enjoy music and dance programs, a heated meeting tent and bar lounge.
Magyar Telekom’s Christmas light painting exhibition has become a
tradition; this year it is installed at a really special venue: in
front of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences between December 20, 2007
and January 1, 2008. The installation covering 12 000 square meters can
be seen between 4 p.m. and midnight each day; using the tools of
contemporary arts, it conveys architectural, scientific and
philosophical contents in addition to holiday-focused messages.
Péter Kozma’s light art installation entitled “m.city” aims to cast light on the interdependencies of city and art from a specific point of view, by examining the ways network culture has changed our perception of space. With the help of an installation projected onto the facade of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in Roosevelt Square and along the Danube he tries to make visible the invisible meta, multi, micro and memory networks intertwining the city.
Christmas light paintings were first launched by Magyar Telekom in 2001; since that time they have been the greatest events of this type in the country. In the first five years, the facade of the Company’s headquarters on Krisztina Boulevard was ‘painted’ by festive lights. 2006 was the first year when the light painting moved to another venue (March 15 Square), which proved to be a good decision, for more people were able to enjoy the exceptional sights than any time before. Magyar Telekom wishes to share an unforgettable experience with the visitors this year, too: they can witness how an accustomed public space is turned into a living work of art. Free wireless Internet (T-Com HotSpot) and T-Online terminals will be available for the use of visitors in the heated meeting tent; with the support of T-Mobile and Kitchen Budapest, they can make ‘Breath Angels’ with a device created especially for this occasion.
