Sándor Polányi to lead Magyar Telekom’s Bulgarian subsidiary

Mr. Sándor Polányi has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Orbitel, the Bulgarian member company of the Magyar Telekom Group with effect April 21, 2007.
Following the decision of the Board of Directors of Orbitel, with
effect April 21, 2007 the new CEO of Orbitel is Sándor Polányi who
simultaneously became member of the Board as well. The two former CEOs
Victor Francess and Nikolai Gorchilov left the company on April 21,
2007.
Bulgaria as a full member of the European Union will soon adopt the
EU’s telecom market liberalization legislation. By this appointment,
Magyar Telekom intends to build on Sándor Polányi’s experience in EU
environment in order to develop Orbitel’s operations.
The new CEO, 52, has degrees in electrical engineering and in economics. He has a long track record in senior management positions at several companies, primarily in the telecommunications industry. Between 1996 and 2003 he was CEO of Vivendi Telecom Hungary (later Invitel), the country’s second largest wireline operator. In recent years he worked as strategic advisor for Siemens, and then for Combridge, the Romanian subsidiary of the Magyar Telekom Group.
