Magyar Telekom starts virtual adventure game

Budapest, October 21, 2005

Magyar Telekom and WWF Hungary started a unique virtual adventure game under the ‘Take care of the birds’ nature conservation program. The objective of the game called Poacher Catcher is to present in an entertaining way the bird protection program and related information.

Over the last years hunting and trading of protected birds got frequent in Hungary and in particular in the neighboring countries. The flash-based multidimensional game called Poacher Catcher aims at calling the attention to this fact. Virtual bird protector players have to collect bird traps illegally placed in the area and take a photo of the poacher. The adventure game that is subject to registration will start in the evening of October 20 on the www.magyartelekom.hu site.

The game is expected to finish at the end of the year when the HUF 500,000 main prize that can be redeemed in T-Pont shops will be drawn among the virtual poacher catchers. Additionally the first 1500 bird protectors in each mission will immediately get a gift: T-shirt, rucksack and plush goldfinch.

Attila Steiner, WWF Hungary’s species protection program leader said: We hope that this virtual adventure game will raise the attention of many players who has not yet visited these beautiful nature conservation areas and maybe they will feel like making a trip there also in real life.

Magyar Telekom supports with a HUF 15 million donation WWF Hungary’s professional work planned for three years under the ‘Take care of the birds’ program. Additionally the telecommunications company spent several tens of millions of forints on the construction of birdwatch towers and also financed the creation of the adventure game. The immediate gifts given during the game and the HUF 500,000 main prize were also offered by the Magyar Telekom Group.

“We are convinced that donations and corporate social responsibility are in the basic interest of a profit-oriented company just like for the society since a service provider can successfully operate in the long term only in a healthy environment. The preconditions to creation and preservation of a healthy environment include protection of the natural resources too. Additionally we are very happy to be able to create this really original online game based on such a new form of communication by presenting the innovative services and novelties of the Group.” – said Gyula Szabó, Deputy Director of Group Communication, leader of the “Magyar Telekom adds” program.
