Budapest, October 18, 2005
The EDR Secretariat of the Prime Minister’s Office selected the consortium of T-Mobile Magyarország and Magyar Telekom for the development and operation of EDR system.
Unified Digital Radio Network (EDR) is an advanced, safe communications
system operated at 380-400 MHZ which is to replace the obsolete ultra
high frequency (URH) technology currently used by the emergency organs
(police, fire brigade, ambulance, disaster prevention, etc…).
The consortium of T-Mobile Magyarország and Magyar Telekom could make a
favorable offer for the construction of EDR – among others – for the
necessary GSM and wireline infrastructure is available to them.
According to he plans the roll-out of EDR is expected for 2006. From
2007 through 2015 the government will pay an annual fee of 9.3 billion
HUF each year for the service. The exact conditions of the service will
be contained in the agreement to be concluded between the consortium
and the EDR Secretariat of the Prime Minister’ Office.
