The University of All Knowledge starts a series of national competitions for secondary school students
Budapest, March 23, 2005
The University of All Knowledge is starting a series of competitions for secondary school students called "Who is expert in what?" sponsored by the Ministry of Education. School student teams can register in a few days for the scientific competition starting on April 11. The semi-finals and the final will be broadcast at the end of the year by Hungarian Television too. The teams will have to solve exciting tasks primarily based on the subjects of lectures delivered at the University of All Knowledge.
The detailed rules of the competition were presented on March 22 by the
organizers and the sponsors in the Reading Room of the Hungarian
Academy of Sciences. Teams of four students and two teachers can
register for the competition on the University of All Knowledge
website. More than one team can compete from one school. The teams will
have to solve exciting tasks primarily based on the subjects of
lectures delivered at the University of All Knowledge. The tasks
require above all creativity and presentation skills and the teams must
be able to answer questions about any field of science with the help of
internet information sources.
The first phase of the competition, the seven-round internet qualifier
will be held from April 11 to May 29. In this phase the teams will have
to solve tests and essay questions. The teams with the best results in
this phase will advance to the regional finals from where two teams go
on to the four semi-finals. The four winning teams of the semi-finals
will compete in the national final. A camp will be held in October for
the participants of the semi-finals where the students will be coached
for appearance on television.
