The 181 EU information line remains alive in 2004
Budapest, January 26, 2004
At the beginning of 2003 all fixed and mobile operators contributed to the preparations of Hungary's accession to the European Union.
When the 181 EU info line was put into operation, the
organizers thought that it would remain active till the referendum in April
2003, but in view of the numerous questions received from citizens the EUKK
decided to maintain the 181 line beyond that date, too. The telecommunication
companies decided that, in order to help information on the EU membership reach
the public, they will continue to operate the 181 information line with
unchanged conditions, until the date of Hungary's official entry to the European
Union.
Accordingly, on the initiative of the Európa Unió Kommunikációs
Közalapítvány (Public Foundation for Communication on the European Union -
EUKK), the telecommunications companies agreed
- to continue to ensure usage
of the 181 EU information line from their network,
- to apply the "local
call" rate discount for the 181 calls in the fixed network and the "blue number"
rate in the mobile network,
- Matáv agreed not to charge either transit fee
or termination fee on such calls.
