Westel's CEO András Sugár and Dr. Ákos Detrekõi, Rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) have signed an agreement quantifying the support to be given till 2006 to the Mobile Telecommunications and IT Laboratory established, with Westel’s help, at the University in 1995. Westel's support has already been significant; with the newly signed contract, its total contribution will exceed HUF 165 million.

According to the contract, Westel contributes another HUF 35 million and expert activities to the work of the Laboratory and the University; this will be granted in 2003 and in the next 3 years. As part of the cooperation, PhD studies at the University's Telecommunications and IT Center will also be financed from this amount, helping 28 students in this way.
