Mobile video solutions at Westel
Budapest, May 19, 2003
From May 19 Westel's customers can view video materials and send short video messages to mobile phones or e-mail addresses with their mobile phones with two different solutions. Westel offers for its mobile video service four types of phones (Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650, Sony Ericsson P800, Qtek). The Nokia 3650 phone with integrated camera that can send video messages is available with the best conditions ever.
For a long time
communication devices with video sending and video film viewing
capabilities were seen only in fantasy novels and films, then the
launch of third generation networks created hopes for the use of mobile
phones with video capabilities. However multimedia "entered" mobile
phones much earlier, last April MMS was offered for the first time in
the world in Westel's network, then in November video sending too as a
novelty in Hungary. With the new services customers could download
video films of varying length from Westel's WAP site. The great
interest in video is shown by the fact that the '777mobile' video films
that can be viewed only with a single type of phone have been viewed so
far almost 10,000 times.
From May 19 additional opportunities are offered for real multimedia
services accessible with mobile phone on the GSM network. The video
materials available on Westel's '777mobile' portal with mobile phone
can be viewed by Westel customers with two different solutions, as a
unique offering on the domestic mobile market. From now on the video
downloading service, started simultaneously with the video sending
capability launched first last November by Westel, can be used in
addition to Siemens Pocket Video also with Real One Player. With the
selection possibility offered for the video films available on
'777mobile' the video content service of the largest domestic WAP
portal and the novelties to be launched soon will be easily accessible
with the Nokia 7650, Nokia 3650 and Sony Ericsson P800 mobile phones
distributed by Westel and Qtek devices with computer functions too.
Fast downloading of video films requires packet-switched transmission
(GPRS) but does not present a problem since as a unique opportunity on
the domestic market Westel offers both its postpaid and Domino prepaid
customers the possibility to select from various GPRS packages.
Another novelty is that the new version of the software presented by
Westel last November, which records voice too with the video, can be
downloaded also to the Nokia 7650 phone so video sending can be fully
used as a service similar to third generation multimedia. What is more,
the new versatile Nokia 3650 phone, that can store both video and audio
recordings, is offered with the best conditions on the domestic mobile
market: Westel’s Gold Card customers can buy this mobile phone with
large color display, MMS and video capability for a mere HUF 29,900
upfront payment and 12 months' installments.
