Wireless Broadband Internet in Public Areas
Budapest, August 11, 2003
Using EasyNet Plusz, a Matáv service now being launched, it will be possible to access the web from public areas, at a high speed and without cables. The service will be available with prepaid cards in the areas covered by service. The first sites to offer Matáv EasyNet Plusz service will be the rooms and terraces of Gerbeaud House in Vörösmarty tér and the terraces of Café del Art.
The
service will be available without end user identification and free of
charge for customers in several Matáv Pont stores (in Budapest in
Petőfi Sándor utca, in Mammut and Árkád shopping malls, in the country
in Matáv Pont stores in Miskolc and Pécs).
Customers will be able to use this service in areas with radio
coverage, on their own devices equipped with Wi-Fi adapter (laptop,
PDA, etc.). The prepaid cards necessary for using this service will be
available in three different denominations and will entitle their
holders to Internet access for 1, 5 and 24 hours.
Matáv launched the first experimental public service access point in
November 2002 in the site of the lectures of University of All
Knowledge, that point is still in operation during the lectures. We
brought into service the first experimental hotel-based public access
point in Hotel Astoria in December 2002. Since then the number of
service access points in hotels has increased, since April 2003
wireless broadband Internet service has been available in the Hyatt
Regency and Mercure Korona hotels as well. Generally, this service in
available in community areas, conference rooms and designated hotel
rooms as an experimental opportunity.
Matáv has been offering its wireless broadband Internet service under
the brand name of EasyNet since February 2003, for hotels, conference
rooms, restaurants and other high-traffic sites. The novelty of the
EasyNet Plusz service to be launched now is the opportunity for end
user identification and the application of prepaid cards.
