Magyar Telekom won the Green Frog award
Budapest, December 3, 2012 13:00
Magyar Telekom received high recognition, the company won the Green Frog Award established by Deloitte Zrt. This year 36 medium size and large companies from seven countries of the Central-Eastern European region competed for the award honoring the best sustainability report. The professional jury resolved that Magyar Telekom made the best report this year.
According to the majority decision of the jury the entry of Magyar Telekom won the first position with its consequently high quality, high standard and the content excellent from all aspects. In this year’s evaluation the jury put the major emphasis on credibility and comparability. Reports authenticated by third parties had more chance therefore, as well as those introducing non-financial performance in a comparable manner, putting them in context. Since the establishment of the Green Frog Award more than ten years ago, numerous significant changes occurred in the reporting practices of companies, in harmony with these changes the set of evaluation aspects are based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting guidelines – considered as the major guideline by companies in the region.
One of the commitments of the Magyar Telekom Group is that it annually publishes its report on the sustainability performance. Already for 8 years reports have been generated according to the sustainability guidelines about the Group’s operation, activity and results. For the fifth year already – uniquely in Hungary – the company’s reports fully meet the GRI guidelines. In order for credibility, reports are audited by an independent third party, their attestation is attached to all reports.
The award was received by chairman and CEO Christopher Mattheisen, who said: „We are extremely pleased to win this high ranking award. The Green Frog award proves, that we are successfully progressing towards achieving our set targets, as each year we manage to improve our company’s sustainability assessment – which is already extremely good. Since 2002 we coordinate our environmental protection activity at Group level, and we’ve been having a sustainability strategy for 7 years already. Concerning the period of 2011-2015 our main strategic objective is to make sustainability part of Magyar Telekom’s identity, providing a competitive advantage for the company on the long term, also this way. This inevitably necessitates maintaining our credibility, one of the excellent tools for that being the sustainability report, as each of our factors and effects are itemized in a comparable manner, and they can be monitored year on year.”
