Wireline services back to normal in Budapest 19
Budapest, March 3, 2008 17:30
Wireline network connections damaged by cable theft in the 19th district of Budapest have been restored by Magyar Telekom’s staff by the planned deadline. In this way, seamless wireline telephone and Internet services can be used by our customers again. These services became unavailable as a result of a criminal act committed on February 25.
Work was carried out continuously from February 25 with the involvement
of a significant workforce for the elimination of service outages and
halts in large areas of Kispest resulting from the criminal act. First,
Magyar Telekom’s leased line network and Giro Plc.’s bank transaction
network as well as police and fire station lines were put into
operation on February 26. Then, all damaged network connections were
repaired by 7pm on March 1, i.e. within the planned repair period of 8
days. In the next step, the seamless operation of services was tested
at our customers, who
from today can again use our wireline telephone
and Internet services.
In the meantime a few dozen more
wireline connections have been damaged in the Kispest area by the
windstorm on March 2.
Service is being restored shortly for all
customers.
In compliance with the General Contract Conditions,
Magyar Telekom will credit a part of the monthly fee (in proportion
with the duration of service outages) to its customers in their next
bill. In order to prevent similar criminal damages, Magyar Telekom will
maintain its security measures in the future, too, and supports
authority and municipality initiatives aimed at stopping cable theft.
