100 million calls to Directory Assistance
Budapest, November 23, 1999
Matáv's domestic Directory Assistance Service received the 100 millionth call at the Pécs DAS Center in the afternoon of November 3, 1999.
Matáv's directory assistance service has been operating for more than
twenty years. The EDP-based National Directory Assistance Service
Center was started up on March 1, 1997. Since then inbound calls are
welcomed first by a fully automated switch "talking in a human voice"
and then the operator is switched. There is no more lengthy waiting
time, service is much faster. The probability of congestion has been
reduced to a minimum as the three DAS centers (in Budapest, Pécs and
Miskolc) are operating in parallel.
The system in operation from 1997 receives more than 100,000 calls
every day and, on November 3, the total number of calls received to
that date reached the figure of 100 million. MATÁV organized a ceremony
on the occasion of the 100 millionth call and gave a present to the
lucky subscriber.
