Mobility and Multimedia Cluster Founded

Budapest, February 05, 2008

The leading research and development companies of the Hungarian infocommunications industry are pooling their R+D resources in order to maximize economic and social benefits.

In an unprecedented cooperation effort aimed at laying the foundations of the international competitiveness of the research, development and innovation (R+D+I) achievements of the Hungarian infocommunications industry, the leading Hungarian research and development companies have established the Mobility and Multimedia Cluster.

“The Cluster is designed to start utilization-oriented research, development and innovation cooperation in the field of mobile and multimedia research and development which will help optimize the existing narrow capacities in order to maximize economic and social profit on the one hand, and on the other hand it will contribute to the implementation of the medium-term science, technology and innovation policy strategy of the Hungarian Government,” said Gábor Pukler, president of the Cluster.

The founders of the utilization-oriented innovation cluster initiated by Magyar Telekom Plc. include the decisive multinational businesses and corporations of the Hungarian infocommunications industry, small and medium-size enterprises which have already earned international credits in the field of research and development, and leading universities engaging in basic technology research.

Currently the Mobility and Multimedia Cluster has thirty members, which represent the entire innovation value chain from basic research to market implementation, consequently the Cluster is capable of embracing and managing R+D+I activities from hatching the idea to their realization and introduction to the market. The founders lay great emphasis on the exploration of the most promising segments of the infocommunications industry and on concentrating the R+D+I resources in these areas. As a result, the Cluster has set the target of implementing R+D+I project ideas in the field of mobile and multimedia technologies.

These are:

  • Mobile technology-based applications (e.g. personalized content provision, mobile television related service development);
  • Multimedia content provision, new advertising opportunities in the digitized systems (e.g. semantic content separation systems, targeted advertising solutions for location-dependent content services);
  • Electronic healthcare (e.g. mobile communication solutions embedded in medical instruments, health sensor networks);
  • Intelligent transport, location-dependent services, geo-IT (e.g. real-time GPS-based road information and navigation systems, agent-based transport simulation).
