"SMSmondó", a unique software for Westel mobile phones, developed in Hungary
Budapest, October 8, 2003
Westel's customers can use a software recently developed in Hungary, with the contribution of the Telecommunications and Media IT Department of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, M.I.T. Systems, Nokia and Westel. The software is able to announce short messages on phone sets using the Symbian operating system. The software is installed to suitable telephone sets free of charge by the company's servicing staff. The user of the set can decide whether to read or hear the messages.
From now on, Westel's customers using the most recent multimedia telephone sets applying Nokia Series 60 platform, can listen to their short messages. The program automatically manages incoming short messages and the directory of the phone set, as well as adapts itself to the operating mode selected by the user. In addition to the voice-grade quality, the software installed to the telephone guarantees high-speed operation; a short message comprising 60 to 80 characters on the average is converted into speech within as little as 3 to 4 seconds. During announcement of the message received, the user can determine the data he/she wants to hear, the number of repetitions, the speed and the volume of the announcement. For Westel's customers, "SMSmondó" is uploaded free of charge to suitable phone sets by the company's service staff; this service is available upon registration. A significant aspect of future usage is that the software operates only with a Westel SIM card; thus the application can exclusively be used by those with 06-30 numbers.
